KFC Corporation has offered a Mississippi family $30,000 after an employee asked their 3-year-old daughter with a scarred face to leave one of the fast-food chain’s restaurants, but the family is refusing to accept the donation.

Victoria Wicher was attacked by three pit bulls in April when she was at her grandfather’s home. During the attack, she lost her right eye and sustained several fractures to her face, according to USA Today.

In May, an employee allegedly asked Victoria and her grandmother to leave a restaurant because her face was frightening other customers. It is unclear whether the event was caught on KFC’s videos at the restaurant.

The family rejected KFC’s money recently, saying that they “didn't feel it was appropriate to accept it after everything KFC has done.”

"With everything that's happened, we just didn't feel right about accepting (KFC’s) money," said Bill Kellum, a Jackson attorney. "But we did tell them they were more than welcome to donate the money to the Frank Stile Foundation."

The Frank Stile Foundation is a non-profit organization run by Stile, a Las Vegas plastic surgeon who is set to perform surgery on Victoria. The website GoFundMe also plans to release donations adding up to more than $100,000 to the family soon to cover medical care costs.

San Diego officials have identified a 12-year-old boy who died after he set off a gun at a Boy Scout camp Monday.

The boy’s name is William Shook and his parents are Las Vegas lawyers John and Julie Shook, according to the Daily Mail.

Police have yet to determine whether William fired the gun accidentally or was trying to commit suicide. Officials are also investigating how William obtained the gun, since no firearms were allowed on the trip. Police think that William brought the gun from Las Vegas.

At the time of the accident, John Shook was a chaperone at the camp on Fiesta Island, which about 20 boy scouts attended.

The camp is a week-long event in Mission Bay, San Diego. Scouts can partake in outdoor activities such as sailing or kayaking at it.

William died in the tent where he was staying.

The Boy Scouts of America sent grief counselors to the camp after the incident.

“This is an extremely sad day for our entire scouting family,” the Boy Scouts of America said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and all those who experienced this tragedy. Our top priority is providing support to our community and for those in the grieving process.”

Former Presidential Candidate Is Hyped About His New Weed Business

Former Presidential Candidate Is Hyped About His New Weed Business Former New Mexico governor and Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson is thinking about making another White House bid in 2016, but he won't let that stop him from getting into the  recreational and medicinal marijuana business.

In fact, Johnson told Business Insider the reaction to Tuesday's announcement he is heading a cannabis company has been amazing.

"I’m in Las Vegas on my way to Los Angeles and I went through the Albuquerque Airport. Everybody gave me a high five," Johnson said in a phone interview Thursday. "Right now, everywhere I’m going it’s a high five. It’s really cool. I’m viewing this as fun. And of course it’ll also involve a lot of work. I also genuinely believe that this company will contribute."

On Tuesday, Johnson was named CEO of Cannabis Sativa, Inc., which will produce lozenges and creams  in states like Colorado where the drug can be legally bought and sold. (Johnson said the company got its name because the firm has a "proprietary" strain of sativa cannabis. He described the other main strain, indica, as "go-to-sleep-marijuana," but he said sativa is "clean your-house-marijuana.")

Once the legalization movement grows in the United States, Johnson said, marijuana product companies like his will be able to eventually market their products worldwide.

"That makes the world a better place. Conceivably, in 20 years, 20%-plus of pharmaceuticals will end up being cannabis-based. Then, if you can go on the recreational side, I've always maintained that legalizing marijuana will lead to less substance abuse," he said.

Johnson predicted the drug will eventually be legal throughout the United States.

"The entire country is going to legalize marijuana. Alabama, Mississippi, maybe those are the two holdouts," he said.

Johnson went on to argue marijuana compares favorably to other intoxicants like alcohol.

"I haven’t had a drink of alcohol for 27 years now and the reason is .. it was just something that I viewed as a handicap and the first time I smoked marijuana as a 17-year old, the first thing that struck me was, 'Holy cow this is great!'" he exclaimed. "I was an athlete then ... and there’s no side effects! There’s no side effects! Yeah, there’s the great, great buzz and you wake up the next morning and it's as clear as can be."

Johnson, who started out in 2012 as a Republican presidential nominee but eventually ran as a Libertarian, also said he hopes his new business won't be held against him if he makes another bid for the White House. In contrast, he said politicians like Hillary Clinton who have a cautious wait-and-see approach to marijuana are "way out of touch."

Business Insider also asked Johnson if he could name a marijuana strain after any politician, which one he would choose.

"It would have to be me," he said.

L.A. Gets Bitcoin ATM Machines

L.A. Gets Bitcoin ATM Machines Los Angeles has introduced bitcoin ATM machines at two local convenience stores.

The digital currency, which is already changing the landscape of online commerce, is steadily gaining popularity, and can now be used to pay for things like political campaign contributions and even firearms.

The ATM machines, manufactured by Las Vegas-based RoboCoin, are located in Hollywood and Venice, inside Locali Conscious convenience stores. According to the Los Angeles Register, users have to scan their palms and provide a phone number in order to verify the transaction.

Santa Monica-based startup expresscoin is managing and supplying the bitcoins for the ATMs. Expresscoin co-founder Joe Hsieh hopes the new machines will increase mainstream acceptance of the digital currency.

"It's hard to grasp what bitcoins are," Hsieh told the Register. "We think ATMs will help promote bitcoins in a different way."

According to bitcoin.org, bitcoin is "a consensus network that enables a new payment system and a completely digital money. It is the first decentralized peer-to-peer payment network that is empowered by its users with no central authority or middlemen. From a user perspective, bitcoin is pretty much like cash for the Internet." The value of one bitcoin is currently around $575.

The Register notes that transactions for the two ATM machines already total in the hundreds of dollars per day. Expresscoin already operates a bitcoin ATM in Las Vegas, at the D Las Vegas Casino Hotel, but Hsieh said the company ultimately hopes to work with bitcoin ATM operators around the world. "It's Either Do It, Or You Die" California Regulators Clamp Down On Water Waste

It's Either Do It, Or You Die California Regulators Clamp Down On Water Waste While Las Vegas faces an existential crisis (and appears to be ignoring it), California regulators are starting to clamp down on water waste. As WSJ reports,* about 60 California cities and agencies have imposed mandatory water-use cutbacks, some as high as 50%*. In many cases, the rules are enforced by charging higher fees for excess usage. In others, inspectors are deployed to crack down on scofflaws. Sacramento - the state's capital - is among the worst offenders and most heavily 'policed' as a team of 40 inspectors have handed out2,444 notices year-to-date, with *fines of up to $1,000 for repeat offenders*. Neighbors are encouraged to whistleblow - there has been 7,604 water-use complaints; but not everyone is embracing the change as lawn repair is down 40% - "*The propaganda dictates we haven't much choice... It's either do it or you die*."

As WSJ reports, the drought is starting to hit real people's lives...

The pain of California's three-year drought is spreading from its agricultural belt to urban lawns and backyards, where residents are being hit with fines for excess water use, and businesses such as golf courses and lawn care are seeing revenue dry up due to water restrictions.

*About 60 California cities and agencies have imposed mandatory water-use cutbacks, some as high as 50%.* In many cases, the rules are enforced by charging higher fees for excess usage. In others, inspectors are deployed to crack down on scofflaws.

*Among the most aggressively monitored locales is the state capital, Sacramento, which issued 2,444 notices of violation in the first 5½ months of the year, with fines of up to $1,000 for repeat offenders.*

This year, the city cut outdoor watering to two days a week from three. Because only about half its homes have water meters to measure use, Sacramento must rely on inspectors to help enforce the rules.

*A team of 40 inspectors* working for the city's Department of Utilities investigate complaints. Sacramento, a city of 475,000, had *received 7,604 water-use complaints* as of June 18, said city spokeswoman Jessica Hess.

Sacramento said the goal is to change behavior, not raise revenue, but it's not just California...

*Residential water restrictions have been instituted in other drought-ravaged parts of the country, including Texas, Kansas and North Carolina. Irrigation-dependent industries there and in California have been hurt.*

The people are not happy...

In Sacramento, Bob Odom said his family's lawn-equipment repair business has dropped 40% this year from last year because of watering restrictions. *"The propaganda dictates we haven't much choice," said Mr. Odom, 80. "It's either do it or you die."*

...

Some residents are angry about the crackdown. *"We spend hundreds of thousands for our homes and can't even water the grass," *said Richard Massey, a 46-year-old disabled forklift operator, as he watched Mr. Geach cite a neighbor.

Finally, Gov. Jerry Brown has called for a 20% cut in overall water use since he declared a drought emergency in January. The State Water Resources Control Board is set to consider in July restrictions on such uses as operating outdoor fountains.

*"Everyone is at risk over time from this drought," said board chairwoman Felicia Marcus. "It really is all for one and one for all."*
