Student Leaders Ask Hillary To Return 'Outrageous' $225,000 School Speaking Fee

Student Leaders Ask Hillary To Return 'Outrageous' $225,000 School Speaking Fee Two top student government leaders at the University of Las Vegas are requesting Hillary Clinton return the "outrageous" $225,000 speaking fee she reportedly will receive for an upcoming speech at the school in October.

In a video circulated by the national Republican Party Friday, Elias Benjelloun, the UNLV student body president, and Daniel Waqar, the student government's public relations director, slammed the university's foundation for paying Clinton so much for the event.

"We really appreciate anybody who would come to raise money for the university. But anybody who's being paid $225,000 to come speak, we think that's a little bit outrageous. And we'd like Secretary Clinton — respectfully — to gracefully return the money to the university or the foundation," Waqar said on the Nevada political program "Ralston Reports."

Benjelloun echoed Waqar's remarks.

"When we heard $225,000, we weren't so thrilled," he said. "We would hope that Hillary Clinton commits to higher education ... and returns part or whole of the amount she receives for speaking."

Clinton, an expected front-runner in the 2016 Democratic presidential contest, has had her wealth come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks. Despite being a reported multimillionaire, Clinton has stumbled through several gaffes, including an interview where she insisted she was not "truly well off."

Clinton and the UNLV did not immediately return requests for comment.

SUNDAR PICHAI: Samsung And Google Are 'Fellow Travelers,' Not Frenemies

SUNDAR PICHAI: Samsung And Google Are 'Fellow Travelers,' Not Frenemies Samsung and Google have an interesting relationship.

As of last fall, Samsung devices accounted for 63.3% of all Android phones worldwide. This large market share can make things tense between the two companies: Executives at Google have talked openly about Samsung gaining too much power over it.

Google wants Samsung phone users to rely on the products and services that make it money, but Samsung has increasingly started making its own custom apps. (Interestingly, Google announced at its I/O conference that it would be baking some aspects of Samsung KNOX into its Android for Work features to attract enterprise clients.)

There have also long been fears that Samsung could start using a "forked" version of Android, which would cut it off from Google's Play Store ecosystem entirely.

As Google's head of Android, Chrome, and Apps, Sundar Pichai deals with Samsung more than anyone. In an interview with Wired's Stephen Levy (who wrote a book about Google called "In The Plex") Pichai expands on the relationship between the two companies after Levy asks him how much Samsung is a friend and how much it's an enemy.

"Samsung and us are in this together for a very long run because it makes sense for us to be in it together to win," he says. "I view us as fellow travelers. We realize unless we coordinate, we won’t be able to produce a great user experience."

Pichai says the two teams work incredibly hard and close together on a daily basis. Sometimes the Samsung exec team will meet with Google in the U.S., but Pichai will go to Korea in the next several weeks. He told Levy he cherishes his very good relationship with Samsung co-CEO J.K. Shin, and that the meetings are good.

This warm enthusiasm comes shortly after The Information's Amir Efrati reported about an uncomfortable meeting at January's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In a heated moment, Pichai reportedly told Samsung's mobile-products execs he was "willing to walk away from Samsung," essentially forbidding the company from using Android.

Iplayco soars to new 52-week high on $8.8 mln Saudi investment - UPDATE

***Updated with the latest share price data***

Iplayco's (CVE:IPC) shares were rocketing higher on Friday, up almost 30% a day after landing a big Saudi investment that signals significant growth ahead for the maker of children's indoor play structures.

Shares hit a new 52-week high of C$1.22 today, extending year-to-date gains to more than double.

According to Iplayco's statement released late Wednesday, Saudi FAS Holding Company and its British Columbia subsidiary, FAS Entertainment B.C., collectively known as FAS, will purchase 10.65 million units of Iplayco at 83 cents apiece for a stake of over 50%, amounting to an investment of $8.84 million.

The Langley, British Columbia-based company said proceeds would be used to fund working capital requirements and other corporate needs.

FAS is a private Saudi Company that is held by three individuals, and is focused on the retail and real estate business sectors. The group started in 1989 as a partnership between three brothers as a retail apparel store operator, later diversifying into other areas such as real estate, construction, financial services and health care.

FAS and Arabian Centres Company Limited, the largest builder of shopping malls in Saudi Arabia, are Iplayco's largest customers from the past three years, and are affiliates of Fawaz Abdulaziz Al Hokair, a retail conglomerate listed on the Saudi stock exchange with a market cap of over C$6 billion.

"Over the course of the past three years and through 9 completed projects aggregating to over $10 million dollars for our chain of Billy Beez family entertainment centres...Iplayco has demonstrated to us that they are global leaders in the design, manufacturing and installation of large-scale, premium-quality play-structures for children," said chairman of Al Hokair, Fawaz Alhokair.

"This investment represents the first step in our plan to rollout hundreds of Billy Beez locations worldwide and build a globally recognizable brand."

Under the terms of the placement, each unit will be made up of one common share of Iplayco and one tenth of a share purchase warrant. Every whole warrant can be used to acquire an additional common share until October 1, 2016 for a price of 85 cents each.

Once the financing is closed, expected later this year, FAS will hold about 51% of Iplayco, or 53% assuming the full exercise of warrants.

FAS will also be granted a pre-emptive right to participate in any future financings on a pro-rata basis, Iplayco said, as well as anti-dilution rights restricting the number of stock options Iplayco may grant so long as FAS holds at least 50% of its shares.

On top of this, the Saudi investor will have the right to nominate 50% of Iplayco's board if its stake is equivalent to 50%. Should it own less than 50% and more than 20% of Iplayco's stock, FAS will be able to nominate two individuals to the company's board.

Iplayco has certainly been tapping into the Middle East lately, just this year announcing orders from the region totalling $5.3 million.

The Canadian company, which ranked among the top 10 best performing companies in the diversified industries sector on the TSX Venture Exchange last year, has sold play structures to over 50 countries and to 16 different markets, including family entertainment centres, theme parks, shopping malls, restaurants, hospitals, zoos, churches and more. It also owns and operates a family entertainment centre, called The Great Escape, in Langley, British Columbia, where Iplayco is headquartered.

"This investment by FAS represents a significant milestone and turning point in Iplayco's history," said Iplayco president Scott Forbes.

"We are extremely honored to have been selected by Al Hokair to help drive their aggressive growth plans for Billy Beez. This investment is a clear sign to our shareholders that Iplayco is positioned for significant growth."

Forbes stressed that the company has Al Hokair's support to continue servicing and growing its existing customer base outside of the Billy Beez line. The company grew sales by over 46% last year, attributed to large orders from mall owners, especially in the Middle East, from where Iplayco received five $1 million plus orders in 2013, alongside an almost $2 million project from The Children's Museum in Las Vegas.

Iplayco, which sees its strong growth tide continuing as it looks to expand to the BRIC nations, has seen its share price rise 144% in the last 12 months.

The private placement with FAS still needs shareholder approvals as well as regulatory clearance. Already, shareholders representing about 27% of Iplayco have agreed to vote in favour of the deal at a shareholder meeting due to take place on August 14.  Reported by Proactive Investors 4 hours ago.

Psychologists Discovered The Secret To Creating A Really Great Slogan

Psychologists Discovered The Secret To Creating A Really Great Slogan New research reveals that, contrary to popular belief, brand slogans don't need to be short in order for people to like them.

According to the study, published in the Journal of Business Research, there are three primary factors that determine whether people like a given slogan:

· *Clarity of message*
· *Creativity*
· *Familiarity with the brand*

What's fascinating is the study found that while repeated exposure can help people remember a slogan better, people are unlikely to have a more positive reaction to it simply because they have seen it more frequently.

Creating a jingle around a slogan, like McDonald's "I'm Lovin' It," does not have an effect on whether people will like it, the study found.

Here are some other factors the researchers tested. Note that stating a product benefit and making sure the tagline is appropriate for the advertised product can make a slogan more likable:

In order to get their data, the researchers surveyed 595 people about 150 well-known slogans, asking them questions about whether they liked the slogans and to rate them on qualities like clarity and simplicity.

The researchers also published a list of the ten most-liked slogans and the 10 most-remembered slogans.

Four slogans appeared on both lists: "Melts in your mouth, not in your hands" (M&M's), "Eat fresh" (Subway), "Got milk?" (California Milk Processor Board), and "Think outside the bun" (Taco Bell).

*Here are the most liked slogans. These tend to be taglines for major brands that consumers feel are both clear and creative.*

1. "Melts in your mouth, not in your hand" (M&M's)

2. "The few, the proud, the marines" (U.S. Marine Corps)

3. "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" (Las Vegas)

4. "The happiest place on the earth" (Disneyland)

5. "Easy breezy beautiful cover girl" (CoverGirl)

6. "Eat fresh" (Subway)

7. "Red Bull gives you wings" (Red Bull)

8. "Think outside the bun" (Taco Bell)

9. "Got milk?" (California Milk Processor Board)

10. "Get in the zone" (AutoZone)

*Here are the most recalled slogans. These tend to be shorter taglines that brands have spent lots of money promoting for a long period of time.*

1. "Just do it" (Nike)

2. "I'm lovin' it" (McDonald's)

3. "Have it your way" (Burger King)

4. "Melts in your mouth, not in your hand" (M&M's)

5. "Got milk?" (California Milk Processor Board)

6. "Eat fresh" (Subway)

7. "Mmm mmm good!" (Campbell Soup Company)

8. "You're in good hands with Allstate" (Allstate)

9. "Think outside the bun" (Taco Bell)

10. "The ultimate driving machine" (BMW)

Harry Reid Doesn't Like Football

Harry Reid Doesn't Like Football Despite being one of the foremost leaders calling for the Washington Redskins to change its name, Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) isn't much of a fan of the sport.

"I’d rather go to a baseball game. I’d rather watch a tennis match," Reid told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday. "I’d rather watch soccer. I’m glad people enjoy football, but I don’t enjoy it that much. I do like college football."

Reid, whose home state doesn't have a professional football team, said he roots for Washington. He said in January, however, that he won't attend Redskins games until the team changes its name, which is viewed as offensive by many Native-American groups.

“I pull for the Washington football team," Reid told the paper. Nevertheless, he does not "consider himself a professional football fan and would counsel his grandchildren not to play the game because he considers it dangerous."

Reid also added he's put off by the size of players in the modern NFL, which he described as "just too much." He also referenced the number of football players who have gotten concussions.

"It’s been shown it’s not good for your head," said Reid.

In spite of his distaste for football, Reid said he did once attend a Redskins game. He did not have a good time.

"It was cold and before halftime somebody stumbled and fell and dumped a beer down my back, not on purpose. If they did it today, I’d think they’d be doing it on purpose. But I think he just had too much to drink,” Reid recounted.

UNLV Student Leaders Are Mad About Hillary Clinton's $225,000 Speaking Fee

Former Secretary of State and expected 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is getting paid $225,000 to speak at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in October, and some student leaders aren't happy about it.

The event Clinton's expected to speak at is to raise money for the UNLV Foundation. As the Wire explains, the more you donate, the more access to the possible Democratic nominee you receive. Clinton's fee will go toward the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, none of the funding is coming from tuition, and it's covered by private sponsorships obtained by the Foundation for the event.

But that apparently isn't enough for UNLV student body President Elias Benjelloun.

Benjelloun said this week on "Ralston Reports," a local TV show, he wants to see Clinton return part of all of the money to students.

"We really appreciate anybody who would come to raise money for the university. But anybody who's being paid $225,000 to come speak, we think that's a little bit outrageous," Daniel Waqar, the student government's public relations, added on "Ralston Reports."

Ralston himself was disgusted with the speaking fee as well.

Students appear to especially incensed due to tuition going up 17 percent over four years -- or roughly four percent a year for four years.

Michael Wixom, a Nevada Board of Regents member, insisted Clinton is worth the money, emphasizing that no tuition or state money will go toward the speaker fee.

"The fee is relatively high, and I understand that," Wixom told the Wall Street Journal. "But she's a very high-profile speaker at this point." Reported by Huffington Post 1 hour ago.

Global Warming Skeptics Receive Awards

Dr. S. Fred Singer, Dr. E. Calvin Beisner, and Tom Harris to Be Recognized at the Ninth International Conference on Climate Change

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 27, 2014

Dr. S. Fred Singer, one of the world’s earliest and most credible critics of the theory that global warming is man-made and dangerous, will be recognized with an award for Lifetime Achievement in Climate Science at an international conference on global warming taking place July 7–9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dr. E. Calvin Beisner, founder of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, and Tom Harris, executive director of the International Climate Science Coalition, also will be recognized for their contributions to the global warming debate.

Global Warming Debate

The debate over the causes and consequences of global warming(or “climate change”) is one of the great controversies of the modern era. While environmental activists and some politicians claim “the debate is over” and call for immediate action to reduce man-made greenhouse gas emissions, others say the science points to only a very small human impact – too small to warrant concern – and the costs of trying to prevent global warming far exceed the benefits.

Ninth International Conference on Climate Change

The Ninth International Conference on Climate Change is expected to attract nearly 1,000 speakers, scientists, and guests willing to question whether man-made global warming is a problem worth addressing. The event has 31 cosponsors and features 60 prominent scientists and economists as keynoters or panelists.

Click here to register for media credentials for the Ninth International Conference on Climate Change at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, July 7–9.

Dr. S. Fred Singer

Dr. S. Fred Singer will receive a lifetime achievement in climate science award. Dr. Singer was among the first and is still the most prominent scientist in the world speaking out against global warming alarmism. Still active at the age of 90, he is the author, coauthor, and editor of hundreds of scientific articles and many books, including most recently Climate Change Reconsidered II: Biological Impacts (2014).

Dr. Singer, an atmospheric and space physicist, served as professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville from 1971 to 1994. He founded the Science and Environmental Policy Project (SEPP) and the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC).

For more about Dr. Singer, click here.

“Fred Singer is the most amazing and wonderful person participating in the global warming debate today,” said Joseph Bast, president of The Heartland Institute, sponsor of the award. “Fred was one of the original ‘rocket scientists’ who helped put satellites and eventually men into space in the 1960s. He is a brilliant scientist and a pioneer in many fields, and one of the most recognized scientists of his generation.

“Fred could have accepted the awards and honorary degrees and settled into a peaceful retirement. Instead, he began writing books and articles exposing errors and corruption in climate science,” Bast continued. “As a result, this kind and patient man, a true American science hero, is slandered and vilified by environmental activists and journalists who couldn’t make it through a high school chemistry class.

“We are very proud to recognize Fred Singer’s lifetime achievements in climate science with this award,” said Bast.

Dr. E. Calvin Beisner

Dr. E. Calvin Beisner is founder and national spokesman of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, a network of theologians, pastors, other ministry leaders, scientists, economists, other scholars, and policy experts committed to applying Biblical principles to the twin challenges of economic development for the very poor around the world and wise Earth stewardship.

Dr. Beisner is a leading voice in the faith community on the issue of global warming. He has testified as an expert witness on the theology, ethics, science, and economics of climate change policy before the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Energy and Environment Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce; briefed the White House Council on Environmental Policy; delivered a paper at a conference at the Vatican sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace; and spoken at many conferences, colleges, churches, and other venues.

For more about Dr. Beisner, click here.

Dr. Beisner will receive the “Outstanding Spokesperson on Faith, Science, and Stewardship Award” sponsored by The Heritage Foundation. “Receiving this award will be a great privilege,” Beisner said, “but it’s a privilege I share with the roughly 60 scholars who for nearly nine years have generously volunteered their time and expertise preparing the Cornwall Alliance’s major papers, public statements, and articles, not to mention advising me.”

“Cynics say strong adherence to religious faith and science cannot mix,” Bast said. “Cal Beisner shows how that cannot be further from the truth. His scholarship, research, and communication about climate science and economics – especially the impact of government policies that needlessly raise energy costs, condemning the elderly and poor to pain and suffering and even risks of death – have made valuable contributions to public knowledge. Cal is, in every way, an outstanding spokesperson for faith, science, and stewardship.”

Tom Harris

Tom Harris, B. Eng., M. Eng. (Mech., thermofluids), is executive director of the International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC), a non-partisan group of independent scientists, economists, and energy and policy experts formed in 2008 to promote better understanding of climate science and policy worldwide.
Mr. Harris is perhaps the most frequently cited and interviewed critic of exaggeration and alarmism in the global warming debate, appearing thousands of times on online news forums and regularly in newspapers in Canada and the U.S. and occasionally in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., and other countries. He is often interviewed on radio and TV.

For more about Tom Harris, click here.

“No one in the world is more deserving of an award for ‘Excellence in Climate Science Communication’ than Tom Harris,” said Joseph Bast, president of The Heartland Institute, sponsor of the award. “Tom saw the need for a genuinely international coalition devoted to defending climate science and communicating the truth to the general public. He didn’t wait for someone else to do it, he created it himself and continues to set a high standard for its work.

“Tom is the perfect communicator on climate issues,” Bast continued. “He is calm and patient when he needs to be, funny when he can be, and never angry. He loves to teach, debate, and inform others, and he’s made a fine art of it.

“The Heartland Institute is very proud to recognize Tom Harris with this year’s Excellence in Climate Science Communication Award.”

Ten awards will be given during plenary sessions at the Ninth International Conference on Climate Change. Additional award winners will be announced prior to the start of the conference and at the conference itself. Students not happy about Hillary Rodham Dead Broke Clinton getting paid $225k to address them

$

Hillary Clinton's fabulous book tour / campaign launch / charm offensive continues, as students at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas react to learning that this selfless Woman of the People - who recently claimed she isn't rich enough to be considered "truly well-off" - is getting paid a cool $225,000 to speak at the UNLV Annual Foundation Dinner.  From the Washington Free Beacon:

UNLV student government leaders expressed their outrage at the university’s decision to pay the former Secretary of State such a hefty fee. “We really appreciate anybody who would come to raise money for the university, but anybody who is being paid $225,000 to come speak- we think that’s a little bit outrageous. And we would like Secretary Clinton, respectfully, to gracefully return the money back to the university or to the foundation,” Daniel Waqar, Public Relations Director for the UNLV Student Government, told Jon Ralston on Ralston Reports.

UNLV Student Body President Elias Benjelloun agreed and weighed in on Clinton’s controversial speaking fee. “We’re excited that Hillary Clinton would come to the university to fundraise on behalf of our university. We’re excited anyone wants to come to UNLV and fundraise on our behalf. When we heard $225,000, we weren’t so thrilled…We’d hope that Hillary Clinton…returns part or whole of the amount she receives for speaking,” he said.

That's even more than the usual $200,000 fee collected by the impoverished Mrs. Clinton, and it's being paid by a university that just inked a plan to raise tuition by 4 percent a year for the next four years... capping off a 300 percent tuition increase since 2004.  The UK Daily Mail got a rather lively response from a student who claims to be generally well-disposed towards Hillary:

'$225,000? That's obscene!' UNLV student Jordan Mason told MailOnline. 'And the money is all fungible, right? Even if some CEO is writing the check, that's money that the person probably would have given to the university in some other way.'

'I like Hillary,' Mason added, 'but if she's not willing to support us without all that money changing hands, maybe they should book someone else who won't add to the reasons we're paying more for school.'

Hillary's just knocking peoples' socks off everywhere she goes, isn't she? Reported by Breitbart 18 minutes ago.

Botox Use On The Rise For Weddings, But Dr. F. Victor Rueckl, Lakes Dermatology Las Vegas Warns That Many Brides Don't Properly Plan Ahead For Its Proper Use

$

Proper pre-wedding Botox planning is essential as it takes time to fully work.

Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) July 01, 2014

Every bride wants to look radiant and glowing on her special day. To that end, many brides will diet and workout in order to look their best on the day of their nuptials. While much attention is focused on the perfect wedding gown, just the right venue, and making sure that catering goes off without a hitch, there are other factors that are increasingly being considered standard for weddings. One of these is the use of Botox injections before the wedding as a cosmetic procedure to help enhance appearance.

The use of Botox injections has steadily increased over the years. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has reported that there were over 6.1 million procedures in 2012 alone, which represents an eight percent increase from the previous year. The number two cosmetic procedure was soft tissue fillers, with a total of 2 million in comparison.

An interesting fact is that it's not only brides who are using Botox to look younger, but grooms are increasingly using this procedure as well.

Botox is used to treat a number of health issues, such as chronic migraines, overactive bladder, cervical dystonia, misaligned eyes, spastic cerebral palsy, and uncontrollable blinking. Its most common use today, though, is in the treatment of smoothing out facial wrinkles temporarily. Botox works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to muscles and thus relaxes them, making for a smoother, younger appearance. While the main target of Botox has been the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Botox in the treatment of crow's feet, those troublesome areas around the eyes, in September, 2013. This approval was given after two clinical trials involving 833 adults.

The problem with using Botox before a wedding or other big event is not the Botox injection itself, but rather that the person getting the procedure doesn't get it far enough in advance to allow it to reach its full effect. Dr. F. Victor Rueckl, dermatologist at Lakes Dermatology, says, "While many patients understand that Botox lasts for three to four months, it's best to get it about one month before the big event. It takes ten days for it to fully kick in, so if there is any tweaking needed, getting the procedure two weeks beforehand just doesn't allow enough time."

As for other cosmetic procedures that are popular pre-wedding preparations, Dr. F. Victor Rueckl suggests that each differing procedure has their own timetable. He says, "Fillers should be done at least two months before. Sometimes there's a bruise or sometimes the patient wants more added, or a tweak needs to be done, then it's best to allow two months between the procedure and the big event. As for facials and such, it's best to have them two weeks before as that some people may have a breakout or a reaction.

"This gives us plenty of time to calm things down. As for the very worst, getting that big pimple right before the big day, we can treat that by injecting cortisone and it'll go down immediately!"

While the use of Botox has skyrocketed, such as in the case of people throwing Botox parties, the FDA reminds us that Botox is a prescription drug that should be administered by a qualified physician in an appropriate medical setting. Patients of Lakes Dermatology are indeed fortunate as Dr. F. Victor Rueckl has been one of the top injectors of Botox in the Las Vegas area for years and has an extremely high client retention rate due to his professionalism and consistent results. At Lakes Dermatology, Dr. Rueckl is the only injector of Botox, never delegating this procedure to a nurse or physician's assistant. Dr. Rueckl performs Botox injections daily in his office and has done over 8,000 treatments since 2005.

Whether the big event coming up is the wedding of your dreams or a class reunion, it is important that you get any cosmetic procedures done in advance to allow them to fully take effect. Visiting a certified physician, such as Dr. Rueckl of Lakes Dermatology, will allow clients to fully discuss all their options with their doctor and to determine when exactly such procedures should take place so that you may look your best when the big moment comes. You've planned for everything from the DJ to the food, so don't forget about making sure that you will look your best.
