LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Phoenix man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in what authorities say is an unprecedented criminal case involving an international cybercrime syndicate with hundreds of thousands of U.S. victims. A federal judge in Las Vegas imposed the sentence Thursday on David Camez, 22, who already is serving a seven-year term in Arizona for similar crimes. "Camez was a member of a vast criminal organization that facilitated rampant cyberfraud throughout the world," said David O'Neil, acting assistant attorney general of the Justice Department's Criminal Division. Michael Adams, a Secret Service agent who infiltrated the crime ring, testified Thursday that federal agents recovered 210,000 stolen credit and debit account numbers in raids. During sentencing, U.S. District Judge Andrew Gordon said he had sympathy for the victims because he also has experienced identity theft.

White House to Boehner, Cantor, Ryan: 'Seize' the Moment on Amnesty This Year
On Friday, White House press secretary Jay Carney said House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), and Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) should "seize" the moment on amnesty legislation and lead Republicans in passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill this year. Carney's comments came a day after Valerie Jarrett, President Barack Obama's top confidant and adviser, told an invitation-only conference in Las Vegas Thursday that she had received a "commitment" from Boehner on amnesty legislation. On Friday, Boehner's office disputed Jarrett's claim, which Jarrett immediately walked back on Twitter, saying her remarks were "lost in translation," even though the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that, based on her remarks, "Jarrett believes Boehner will allow a comprehensive immigration reform bill, or a package of bills, to come up for a vote after the primary election to avoid spoiling some GOP candidates’ chances."
During Friday's press briefing at the White House, Carney, in response to Jarrett's remarks, said that Boehner and other pro-amnesty Republicans have "all expressed deep interest in moving forward on immigration reform." He said the White House has "found those comments and that interest to be encouraging and indicative of some movement" and "support for comprehensive immigration reform."
Carney, calling on the House to pass the Senate's amnesty bill that the Congressional Budget Office determined would lower the wages of American workers, said that the opportunity to pass sweeping immigration reform is something that is "very rare" and "we ought to seize it."
After refusing to speculate about what executive actions Obama may enact after Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson indicated Thursday that the administration was close to easing more deportations and revising the Secure Communities program, Carney said he hopes that "Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, Chairman Ryan and others hear all the voices of support for comprehensive immigration reform and move forward with it."
"The opportunity is there for the taking," Carney said before indicating that he hoped Republican leaders would "avail themselves" of it.
Boehner has previously said that he would be "hellbent" on getting amnesty legislation done this year, while Republican leaders like House Conference Chair Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) have floated an August deadline. So did Obama, when he indicated this week that there were "two to three months" left in the year to pass amnesty legislation. Pro-amnesty Democrats like Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) have said that this year would be the last chance for sweeping amnesty legislation, and the CEOs of the Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers said earlier this week that the "final act" of this Congress in the lame-duck session could be amnesty legislation if Congress does not act by August. NAACP Selects Cornell William Brooks As New President And CEO
WASHINGTON (AP) — The NAACP on Saturday announced that lawyer and activist Cornell William Brooks would become its new national president and CEO.
The selection of Brooks came as the nation celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision by the Supreme Court which outlawed segregation in public school, a lawsuit that was argued by the organization's legal arm. Brooks, 53, of Annandale, New Jersey, will become the organization's 18th national president, replacing interim leader Lorraine Miller. Miller has been serving in that position since Benjamin Jealous ended his five-year tenure last year.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Brooks said he was looking forward to the work.
"I am deeply humbled and honored to be entrusted with the opportunity to lead this powerful historic organization," Brooks said. "In our fight to ensure voting rights, economic equality, health equity, and ending racial discrimination for all people, there is indeed much work to be done."
Brooks said he was particularly humbled that his selection came around the Brown v. Board anniversary.
"As a graduate of both Head Start and Yale Law School, I am a beneficiary, an heir and a grandson if you will of Brown versus Board of Education," Brooks said. "My life is the direct product, if you will, of the legacy of the blood, sweat and tears of the NAACP and so today I'm particularly mindful that the NAACP has made America what it is, and certainly made my life possible and we are all grateful heirs of that legacy."
NAACP chair Roslyn Brock said the organization's board made a final decision Friday night, and told The Associated Press of the selection Saturday morning. Brooks will be formally presented to the Baltimore-based organization's members at its national convention in Las Vegas in July.
"Mr. Brooks is a pioneering lawyer and civil rights leader who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the association," Brock said. "We look forward to leveraging his legal prowess, vision and leadership as we tackle the pressing civil rights issues of the 21st century."
The organization had hired The Hollins Group Inc., of Chicago to lead its search for a new CEO and Brooks was selected from more than 450 applications, Brock said. The organization held more than 30 interviews, she said.
Brooks, a minister who is originally from Georgetown, South Carolina, is currently president and CEO of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, a Newark, New Jersey-based urban research and advocacy organization. He graduated from Jackson State University, received a Master of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology and got his law degree from Yale.
Brooks has worked as a lawyer for the Federal Communication Commission and the Justice Department. He also ran for Congress as a Democrat in Virginia in 1998. He still owns a home in Woodbridge, Virginia.
Brooks said he would immediately start talking to and listening to the NAACP's membership to plan for the organization's future. He said he would present his vision for the NAACP at the organization's convention after he's held conversations with the members.
"As long as America continues to be a great, but imperfect nation, there will be a need for the NAACP," Brooks said.

Judge Rules Billboard Music Awards Can Use Michael Jackson Hologram
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A federal judge ruled Friday that the Billboard Music Awards can use a hologram of deceased pop icon Michael Jackson at this weekend's show, rejecting efforts from tech companies seeking to block the digital performance.Judge Kent Dawson said there wasn't enough evidence to show the planned 3-D image would violate patents held by Hologram USA Inc. and Musion Das Hologram Ltd. The companies own rights to technology known for digitally resurrecting deceased rapper Tupac Shakur at the 2012 Coachella music festival.
"The court's decision is not surprising," attorney Howard Weitzman, who represented Jackson's estate and dick clark productions, wrote in an email. "The request to stop this extraordinary Michael Jackson event was ludicrous."
Plans to use the hologram during the show Sunday emerged with the lawsuit, but they weren't confirmed until the hearing Friday afternoon. Show producers had been promoting only a "history-making performance" at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena that would promote the singer's latest posthumous album, "Xscape."
Hologram USA and Musion said in their emergency lawsuit Thursday that one of their products was being used without authorization by a competitor to create a segment that depicts Jackson performing a new song, "Slave to the Rhythm."
Dawson noted that the lawsuit didn't provide evidence that the company's patents were being used to create the Jackson hologram, and attorneys for the defendants said the techniques being used were in the public domain. Technology and visual tricks that can create holographic-type images have existed for decades, although the Shakur performance sparked more interest in creating realistic performances of dead celebrities.
Attorney Michael Feder, representing the show and Jackson estate, filed a response Friday, saying the holographic performance had been planned for months and was discussed with Alki David, who owns the rights to the technology that creates and projects lifelike images to appear alongside live performers through Hologram USA and Musion.
Plaintiff's attorney Ryan G. Baker said his clients were disappointed with the ruling, but the lawsuit will continue.
"It's only the very beginning of a case that will continue to be prosecuted by my clients, and ultimately they are confident that they will prevail and will recover all available damages for the defendants' infringing conduct," Baker said.
Hologram USA obtained the rights to the patents after the bankruptcy of Florida effects house Digital Domain, which created the Shakur image to wide acclaim two years ago.
The lawsuit also named John C. Textor, the chairman of Florida-based Pulse Entertainment Corp. who was the former head of Digital Domain. Pulse is accused of using the hologram techniques without a proper license. Textor said he could not comment publicly on the case.
The lawsuit names Atlanta-based Pulse Entertainment Inc. as a defendant. Spokesman Ken S. Johnson said the company was listed incorrectly because it had no connection the Billboard Music Awards.
In March, Hologram USA sued Cirque du Soleil and MGM Resorts International over its show, "Michael Jackson ONE" at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. The show features a performance by a digital rendition of Jackson, which the company also contends is an unlicensed use of its technology.
The case is being handled in a Los Angeles federal court. Cirque du Soleil and MGM Resorts have been granted an extension until May 23 to respond to the lawsuit.

Ever since it was announced the 5 Seconds of Summer were set to perform at the Billboard Awards this month, it's become quite obvious that the lads are a pretty big deal.So naturally, since they've become fully fledged popstars now, they get to hit up 'gifting suites' (basically places where it's Christmas all the time) left, right and centre - and they seemed to be having a right ball at the Billboard one recently.
Yep, the lads were busy rehearsing and doing some press ahead of the awards tonight, but that didn't stop them from posing for a bunch of stupidly adorable pics that showed off exactly what goodies they managed to nab.
Appropriate vest choice from Luke. We're sure that food blender (or maybe a smoothie maker? Agh, who cares) really does complete him.

Karl Rove: I'd Prefer to Get Amnesty Done in Lame-Duck Session
Republican strategist Karl Rove suggested that he would like Congress to pass amnesty legislation during the lame-duck session of Congress, but he also said that immigration reform could get done "early next year."President Barack Obama said that there were only "two to three months" left to pass amnesty legislation this year, but the CEOs of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers said this week that they hoped amnesty legislation could be the "final act" of the lame-duck session. Rove has courted pro-amnesty business executives for donations to his political action groups.
"The Speaker wants to get this thing done, but he wants to get it done in a way that unites the country," Rove said on Hugh Hewitt's radio show on Friday. "So my suspicion is we’ve got a better chance of getting comprehensive immigration reform done in the aftermath of the election or early next year." In fact, Rove expressed a preference "to get it done in the aftermath of the election."
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and other GOP leaders declared on Wednesday that Senate Republicans would "absolutely" try to pass amnesty legislation if Republicans win back control of the upper chamber next year.
Rove, while a White House adviser for President George W. Bush, helped Bush push for comprehensive immigration reform--a failed attempt that saw the conservative base revolt.
Rove stated that Obama "did not do himself or the cause of immigration reform any good by allowing" his confidant and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett to go to Las Vegas on Thursday and say that the White House had a "commitment" from House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to act on amnesty legislation.
