The 12th annual official Star Trek Convention Las Vegas 2013 is coming Aug. 8, and runs through Aug. 11 in Las Vegas. It's the largest Star Trek convention of them all. Creation Entertainment, the production company for the convention, is the organization that started out hosting comic book conventions in the 1970s and 1980s. Then in 1991, Paramount Pictures granted the company an agreement for the Star Trek franchise that covered photos as well as a wide range of collectible souvenirs, becoming became the very first studio licensee for the production of film "stills." The rest is Star Trek convention history. At the apex of the Star Trek franchise's popularity as a science fiction phenomenon, Creation Entertainment was organizing up to 110 conventions a year. The real excitement is yet to come, however.
