I absolutely love this gorgeous new smartwatch from Skagen — except it's missing one major feature every smartwatch should have in 2018 I was prepared to love the Skagen Falster smartwatch.

When I first saw the watch at CES — the tech industry trade show in Las Vegas last month — it blew me away. The watch was easily the best-looking wearable I saw there, and certainly the best-looking smartwatch I've seen in months.

The Falster watch features activity tracking, customizable watch faces, and voice commands powered by Google Assistant. Skagen has made hybrid watches in the past, but the Falster is the brand's first true smartwatch. It starts at $275 and is available now.

I tested out the Falster watch over the course of a few weeks. While I quickly fell in love with its gorgeous design, I found one surprising shortcoming.

Their watches are mostly rendered in neutral leathers and gold, rose gold, and silver metallics with mother of pearl and marble faces.--In short, Skagen's watches are historically stunning, and the Falster is no different. It comes in black, silver, and rose gold, with either steel or leather bands.-

Wainscot Media buys MR Magazine and custom publications from UBM

NEW YORK, Feb. 23, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UBM plc, the world’s largest pure-play business-to-business events organizer, the parent company of MR Magazine for the past two years, announced today that it is selling the print publication, website and related businesses to Montvale, NJ based Wainscot Media. Also included in the deal are the 25 custom magazines, published for the customers of exclusive retailers in the apparel and jewelry businesses, known as Forum and Accent. Wainscot is a family-owned trade and consumer media company with a similar profile to Business Journals Inc., the company under which all the titles originated. That company was sold, in its entirety, to UBM in April 2016.

Group publisher Stu Nifoussi and Editor-in-Chief Karen Alberg Grossman, who conceived and created all of the magazines included in the deal, hailed the sale as an important and strategic move for both companies.

“Wainscot is a very strong player in both trade and custom publishing,” said Nifoussi. “They saw an opportunity to expand these properties beyond what was possible at UBM and we are very happy to be joining them. While we have really enjoyed our association with UBM, we also recognize their primary commitment to the trade show and event businesses. Our intention is to maintain the very strong ties we have forged over the last couple of years to UBM and the Project Show, as well as MRket, which was originally created as an extension of MR Magazine."

Grossman added, “I’m excited about this opportunity to grow the magazines that we created, nurtured and loved for so many years: MR for 28, Forum for 20 and Accent for 15. Combining Wainscot’s expertise with the talent and skills of our MR and custom teams will result in many more years of innovative publishing—in print and online.”

Mike Alic, Managing Director of UBM Fashion, sees the agreement as a win for everyone: “Wainscot will give these magazines and digital assets a great home and room to grow. While we will certainly miss Stu and Karen and their terrific team, we have structured this agreement to ensure that our relationship remains strong and enduring. We intend to continue to work with the Wainscot and MR teams on future initiatives to benefit both companies.”

Wainscot CEO Mark Dowden commented, “Wainscot Media is thrilled to add these important and influential properties to our family. We have known Stu and Karen for several years, and we’ve been very impressed with the enduring relationships they and their staff members have forged with their readers and media partners. We see a synergy that we believe will take all the publications to new heights. Wainscot provides several skills and services that were not a part of their current offerings, and the company has a strong team in place to support their efforts. We are excited to assist them in reaching their full potential.”

NRA honours US FCC boss Ajit Pai with rifle for repealing 'net neutrality'

$

The National Rifle Association (NRA) on Friday honoured the head of the Federal Communications Commission with a rifle after braving death threats and other opposition as he worked to undo the Obama administration's 2015 net neutrality rules.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai was honoured at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Oxon Hills, Maryland, by the NRA with the "Charlton Heston Courage Under Fire Award," an honor named for the late actor who was an NRA president.

The award is a Kentucky long rifle that will stay at the NRA's museum in Fairfax, Virginia. The NRA was not allowed to bring the weapon on stage, said Carolyn Meadows, an NRA official.

It was not immediately clear why the NRA was not able to present the long gun to the FCC chairman. The FCC, CPAC and the NRA did not immediately respond to questions.

A Reuters reporter at the event said there were no visible prohibitions against weapons at the event but metal detectors were present before President Donald Trump's address earlier on Friday.

At the event, Pai defended his aggressive approach to undoing numerous telecommunications regulations put in place under former President Barack Obama.

"Some people urged me to go for sacrifice bunts and singles and try to nibble around the edges — make some minor changes," Pai said. "But I don't play small ball."

Pai cancelled his appearance in January at a large consumer electronics event in Las Vegas after receiving deaths threats, sources told Reuters.

The repeal of the net neutrality rules was a victory for internet service providers like AT&T Inc, Comcast Corp and Verizon Communications Inc, conferring power over what content consumers can access and allowing them to offer paid fast lanes for certain content.

On the other side, technology companies including Alphabet Inc and Facebook Inc have thrown their weight behind the congressional bid to reverse the net neutrality repeal.

On Thursday, 22 state attorneys general filed sued to block the repeal.

Fight for the Future, a group that backs net neutrality, said in a tweet the NRA gave Pai an award that will "allow Internet service providers (ISPs) to censor websites and information about guns."

Several corporations have cut ties with the NRA after the group launched a counter-offensive against a student-led campaign for tighter U.S. gun ownership laws after a gunman killed 17 people at a Florida high-school.

Insurer Chubb Ltd said on Friday that it would stop underwriting an NRA-branded insurance policy for gun owners that covers legal costs in self-defence shootings. Insurance company MetLife Inc ended an auto and home incentive program for NRA members, while several rental car companies announced they were ending discount programs for NRA members.
