The experts at Lights 4 Living have responded to figures, showing the benefits Las Vegas is reaping thanks to switching to energy efficient street lights.

The city of Las Vegas has saved $2 million this year after its lighting upgrade, according to the article ‘Energy Efficient Street Lights Land Las Vegas $2m Jackpot’ by Business Green (13th Sept). The city embarked upon a huge retrofit in March, installing 42,000 new LED street lights. Recent reports have shown that the upgrade has halved Las Vegas’ electricity bill and reduced maintenance costs greatly, as the bulbs can last up to three times longer than their predecessors.
The lights are expected to last 13 years, and pay for themselves in about half that time. The money saved is being put towards other green projects, such as a 300kW solar installation and the renovation of public buildings to make them more energy efficient. The City of Las Vegas’ sustainability officer, Tom Perrigo, commented that they were seeing savings even greater than those they had predicted.
Lights 4 Living is a UK based company that provides high quality home lighting solutions for both indoor and outdoor. A representative commented on Las Vegas’ upgrade:
“There is no doubt that energy-efficiency is the future of lighting, and this can be seen clearly through the number of retrofits happening in major cities. Las Vegas follows the precedent set by Los Angeles, who recently completed the largest LED street light replacement project in the world. It is important to do your part at home too and use energy-saving lighting. Not only will this help to reduce your carbon footprint, but it can also save you money.”
