On Tuesday, former Charlotte, North Carolina Mayor Patrick Cannon will face sentencing after admitting to taking at least $50,000 in bribes from strip club mogul David "Slim" Baucom and federal agents.
Cannon, a Democrat, will become the first chief executive in the history of Charlotte ever to be sentenced to prison, reports the Charlotte Observer.
Elected last November, Cannon previously served on the Charlotte City Council. After an almost four-year investigation, U.S. prosecutors said Cannon accepted bribes from the strip club owner and two undercover agents in exchange for helping circumvent zoning regulations.
Cannon bagged cash, Las Vegas travel, and the use of a luxury apartment from the undercover officers, reports Reuters.
In June, Cannon said, "I love Charlotte. It is the city of my birth. I regret having hurt the city I love."
Cannon was also accused of soliciting up to $1 million in bribes, reports the Associated Press.
Cannon faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines. Reported by Breitbart 5 hours ago.
