Three years ago, Ray J treated the listeners of "The Breakfast Club" to a violent rant directed at rapper Fabolous, who he had tussled with the previous weekend at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. Highlights of the rant included Ray calling Fab and his entourage "punk faggots."
You can listen to the rant here. Three years later, Ray J seems to have calmed down, saying in a HuffPost Live conversation Monday that he was in a bad place when the Fabolous scuffle happened.
"I definitely learned from that, and I feel terrible about that," he told host Marc Lamont Hill. "I went into a deep depression for a couple months to just kind of figure out what led me to that, and how can I now grow and be better?"
Ray J, who was on to chat about the new season of "Love & Hip Hop Hollywood," credited being in Las Vegas at the time as a reason for being "turned up." In a moment of self-awareness, Ray apologized to all parties involved for the fight and the subsequent blow-up interview.
"We talked about it a couple days before that, and it was all good. So it was like I just started tripping. He's a good dude. I just went off the deep end," he said.
Ray said he never formally apologized to Fabolous, though.
"I don't feel it needed an apology. I just felt like they know what it was in Vegas and it was just a crazy night," he said. "People that know me know that's not me every day. And Fab knows that, too. I got nothing but respect for him and I take full blame for that."
