Detroit Style Pizza Co. President and World Champion Pizza Maker Shawn Randazzo reaches out to Jack White in response to the musician's recent interview with Brian McCollum.
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) July 31, 2014
Detroit Style Pizza Co. President and World Champion Pizza Maker Shawn Randazzo has issued an open invitation to rocker Jack White to enjoy a Detroit Style Pizza on the house at his Roseville location. The invitation is in response to a recent interview with Brian McCollum in which White remarked on the uniqueness of Detroit's pizza, stating "Talk about another thing with Detroit – they really should be calling it Detroit-style pizza... It should be a thing, just like Chicago-style is." Randazzo, who brought national prominence to Detroit Style Pizza by being named World Champion Pizza Maker of the Year in 2012 with his Detroit Style Pizza recipes, is asking White or his representatives to contact him at 586-489-4211 or via Detroit Style Pizza Co.'s Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/detroitstylepizza) or Twitter (@DetStylePizzaCo) accounts to make arrangements at White's convenience.
"I would be honored to serve Mr. White an Authentic Detroit Style Pizza on the house," said Randazzo. "He's a Detroit native and an immensely talented musician. I want to reach out to him and let him know that yes, Detroit Style Pizza is indeed a thing; and the style is gaining popularity not only in Detroit, but also across the nation and the globe. There is some correlation between Jack White and Detroit Style Pizza: both products of Detroit, both understand the struggles the city has faced, yet both have been able to break through barriers and rise to national prominence. It's my mission to make sure everyone gets a taste of Detroit Style Pizza, and I would be proud to consider Mr. White as a Detroit Style Pizza Co. patron."
Detroit Style Pizza features a thick crust that's light and airy on the inside, crispy on the outside. It's prepared in square steel pans – the same pans once used as parts trays and oil pans by Detroit's automotive manufacturers. Pepperoni is placed on the dough before a layer of brick and mozzarella cheeses, which caramelize to the crust when baked in deck ovens. Red sauce is ladled on last, lending Detroit Style Pizza the nicknames "red top pizza" and "upside down pizza."
In 2012, Randazzo's Detroit Style Pizza recipe was named World's Best Pizza at the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas, where Randazzo was also named World Champion Pizza Maker. Since then, Randazzo has opened three Metro Detroit restaurants featuring his recipes: in Roseville, St. Clair Shores and Clinton Township. He has also pioneered the Authentic Detroit Style Pizza Maker Training Program, which trains pizzeria operators how to properly prepare Detroit Style Pizza, and has served as a consultant for numerous pizzerias worldwide. Once dubbed "The Motor City Secret," Detroit Style Pizza is now served in at least ten U.S. states and six countries worldwide.
