Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco are the best destinations in the country to visit according to a new study by international tourism specialists Resonance Consultancy, which analyzed key statistics and millions of consumer reviews to determine which cities offer visitors the most quality experiences in the United States today.

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 30, 2014

Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco are the country’s top five destinations in a new Resonance Report that ranks American cities from a tourism supply side perspective. The report was released at the Destination Marketing Association International Conference in Las Vegas on July 22.

“Traditional measures of success in tourism – numbers of visitors and the spending they generate – don’t tell the whole story,” says Chris Fair, president of Resonance Consultancy. “A destination’s reputation and future success is increasingly shaped not by marketing but by the reviews and opinions of individual experiences within the destination. The Resonance Report seeks to quantify and reflect that impact in the rankings to identify which destinations tourists are most likely to visit in the future.”

Resonance Consultancy specializes in destination and community development and has created strategies, plans and policies that have shaped the future of destinations around the world.

To rank U.S. destinations through the lens of the products, programming and experiences that resonate with consumers today, the Resonance Consultancy team considered destinations from both a business and leisure traveler perspective, identifying and measuring motivating purchasing criteria for each. Key factors that influence business travel include: number of direct flights; number of Fortune 500 headquarters; number of very good or excellent hotels; size of convention center(s) and exhibit space(s). On the leisure side, the analysis counted the number of very good or excellent experiences such as restaurants, museums and outdoor activities as rated by visitors on sites such as Trip Advisor and Yelp, while also taking into account key statistics such as crime rates within the destination.

Based on this analysis, the 10 destinations that have the best tourism infrastructure and most quality experiences are:

1. Los Angeles
2. New York
3. Dallas
4. Chicago
5. San Francisco
6. Las Vegas
7. San Diego
8. Denver
9. Philadelphia
10. Miami

“This unique supply side perspective yielded interesting results,” says Richard Cutting-Miller, executive VP at Resonance Consultancy. “This new Resonance Report will help cities understand what their strengths are from an experiential perspective and identify areas for improvement based on a comparison with their competitors - while also providing consumers with recommendations on the best overall places to visit.”
