Miami stuntman and Parkour and Freerunning instructor seeks redemption on the course

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) July 25, 2014

Parkulture is proud to announce that one of its co-founders, professional stuntman and parkour instructor, Jared “JJ” Woods, will be competing on NBC’s highest rated primetime extreme sports competition show, American Ninja Warrior. The show will premiere on local affiliates this coming Monday, July 28th at 9PM and will rerun on the new Esquire Network on Tuesday, July 29th at 8pm.

Woods, a long-time Miami resident, has been balancing careers as a professional stuntman for film and TV while teaching at the Miami Freerunning and Parkour Academy.

“Teaching and working with kids is my true passion. It’s so rewarding to see my students improve week after week and to see how they support each other,” explains Woods. “Parkour and Freerunning are still relatively new sports, but competitions like American Ninja Warrior are bringing them to the forefront because the competitors rely on so many of the skills you only learn in these disciplines.”

This will be Woods’ second year competing on American Ninja Warrior, his first was in season 4 when he made it to the Las Vegas Finals but failed in Stage One.

“This competition might seem to some as just a big show, but it is one of the toughest on earth. Only three have ever completed the course in 20 years! You are not competing against others, you are competing against yourself,” Woods said about being back this year. “Ultimately, no matter how far I get, I will try and try again. I do it for myself but also for all my students. They are my motivation just as much as I am theirs.”

Still, training remains at the heart of Woods’ performances whether competing on American Ninja Warrior or doing stunts for Iron Man 3. “I owe a lot of my stamina training to Adrian Gonzalez [owner of the Miami Freerunning Academy]. He does ’surprise training,’ never letting me know in advance what routine we are going to do next. It keeps my mind and body constantly on edge.” says Woods.

To see if Woods’ makes it to the finals in Las Vegas, tune in to your local NBC affiliate on Monday, July 28th, or watch it on the Esquire Network on Tuesday, July 29th at 8pm.
