Angela Parsons-Mazurek was crowned Mrs. Pennsylvania Pageant in Pittsburgh on May 4, 2014 and competes July 23-25 in Las Vegas for the Mrs. USA title.
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 20, 2014
Angela is not a typical beauty pageant contestant. Many are amazed Angela is alive today let alone competing in, and winning, a beauty pageant at age 29.
On a Sunday morning in December of 2007, Angela was in a horrific car wreck when visiting her parents for the holidays in rural Oklahoma. She was hit head on by a pick-up truck while on her way to the gym. Earlier that year, she had graduated college from Missouri State University with a degree in economics (with honors) where she was also captain of the Women’s Collegiate Soccer Team. In high school, she had been an Oklahoma All State Soccer Team member and a valedictorian at Broken Arrow High School.
After having been cut out of her brother’s Durango by the Jaws of Life by the Skiatook Rescue Squad late Sunday morning, she was life-flighted to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The emergency brake pedal was impaled through her left leg and actually helped block some of the bleeding. At the time of the accident, Angela had been training as a marathon runner, preparing for a half marathon. The accident caused her to lose nearly two thirds of her blood content. Surviving this blood loss would not have been possible without the changes to her metabolism due to her rigorous training. The surgeons fought hard for over eight hours that first day to save her life and leg, with another arduous surgery the next day, and many more surgeries to follow.
After a week in ICU and an induced coma, Angela spent 4 more weeks in the hospital with a Kirshner’s apparatus speared through both of her legs as part of the treatment needed for this type of leg trauma. About two weeks later while on the post-surgery floor, one of the original surgeons paid her a visit. He said he just wanted to see her – because he couldn’t believe she was alive.
Sixteen surgeries later, years of rehab, lots of prayer, and with amazing determination and blessings — she fought back to regain a normal and productive life. She was married to Edward Mazurek, Esq. at her dream wedding at the Bellagio in Las Vegas with her friends and family there to celebrate. Today, Angela is a sales account representative for Insperity and is based in Philadelphia. She enjoys the challenges and pace. Previous to that role, she was a sales representative at CDR Assessment Group in Tulsa.
After about her 12th surgery, she had asked Dr. Brent Norris, who was her primary trauma orthopedic surgeon, how other patients he had who had gone through so many surgeries, like her, reacted to the therapy. He responded, “I don’t have any other patients who have survived that many surgeries – your it.”
So, with grace, beauty, and unmatched determination and drive, Angela is proud and excited to represent Pennsylvania with great hopes as she enters the Mrs. USA Pageant. No matter the outcome in Las Vegas, Angela is truly living -- and her American dream is unfolding each day.
Tulsa based CDR Assessment Group, Inc. is proud to be one of Angela's Mrs. USA Pageant sponsors. Since 1998, CDR has been providing break-through assessments and leadership development and talent management services for global clients. Reported by PRWeb 22 hours ago.
