LAS VEGAS (ABC 4 Sports) -The Utah Jazz overcame a slow start and defeated the Portland Trail Blazers by a score of 75-73 on day eight of the Samsung NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Utah had four players score in double-figures. Malcolm Thomas scored a team-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Rudy Gobert recorded a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Last year's NBA Summer League Championship game MVP, Ian Clark tallied 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists. Nick Covington came off the bench to add 12 points for Utah.

After going 1-for-19 in the first quarter and only scoring four points, Gobert helped Utah find their grove with six points in the second quarter, helping Utah take a 29-25 lead into the locker room.

Portland also experienced some offensive woes in the first half. They were just 5-for-18 from the field in the opening quarter and missed all eight of their three-point attempts in the first half.

Utah continued to build their lead in the third quarter and Dante Exum's layup as time expired put the Jazz up 55-46 entering the final quarter. The fourth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft registered nine points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists in the game.

Portland would not go quietly as their 15-6 run to start the fourth quarter tied the game at 61 with 6:41 remaining in the contest. Utah responded with back-to-back three-pointers by Thomas and Clark to give the Jazz a 67-61 lead.

In the final minute, Utah had a chance to put the game out of reach but Rodney Hood just missed a three-pointer that would have sealed the deal. Meyers Leonard grabbed the rebound to give Portland one final chance to tie the game.

Utah iced the game when CJ McCollum's inbound pass was intercepted by Exum with 1.9 remaining.

McCollum was a bright spot for Portland, scoring a game-high 21 points on 9-for-15 shooting. Allen Crabbe tallied 10 points and eight rebounds. Leonard added nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks in the loss.

The Jazz completed their stint in Las Vegas going 3-2, while Portland finished with a 2-3 record. Reported by abc4 19 minutes ago.
