Leave it to a former Division I gymnast to conquer an incredibly difficult obstacle course in front of a live audience and millions of viewers worldwide.
On Monday, when Towson University graduate Kacy Catanzaro took on the finals course in Dallas for competition sports show "American Ninja Warrior," she not only made it to the final round of the U.S. contest, she also made history.
The 5-foot, 100-pound gymnast became the first female contestant to qualify for the competition's final round. With her win Monday, she'll next head to Las Vegas where she'll go to head-to-head with dozens of finalists from around the country who all conquered each of the physically strenuous stages.

Based on a Japanese competition show, "American Ninja Warrior" debuted on G4 in 2009, before it was picked up by NBC in 2011. Since then, viewership has gradually increased, and the reality show has become a standout in its demographic this summer. In earlier seasons, contestants who made it through the qualifying rounds of the competition were flown to Japan to try their luck at the final course. ("Ninja Warrior" has since duplicated the course in Nevada.)
For the record, no one has ever been crowned winner of the grueling competition in the past five seasons of "American Ninja Warrior," since no contestant has completed the final course. So Catanzaro certainly has her work cut out for her.
