Nevada auto accident attorney Matthew E. Aaron of Aaron & Paternoster, LTD, says federal officials are putting safety first by raising concerns about the recent General Motors vehicle recall.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) August 02, 2013
Las Vegas personal injury lawyer Matthew E. Aaron of Aaron & Paternoster, LTD, today said he is closely watching the developments of a General Motors recall involving 43,000 vehicles susceptible to trunk fires and other hazards.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently launched an investigation into GM’s handling of the recall, according to The Los Angeles Times, “GM recalls more than 38,000 Chevy, Buick hybrids due to fire risk” (May 6, 2013).
“It’s always wise to be cautious when dealing with a serious safety issue such as a defective auto part recall,” said Aaron, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “The NHTSA has a responsibility to make sure that all the vehicles on the road are safe and free of defects. We put our trust in these government agencies to protect us. This might be an inconvenience to the auto companies. But it’s better to do that than put the lives of innocent people at risk.”
As a personal injury attorney in Las Vegas, Aaron said he has seen first-hand the devastating impact of car accidents. He said even the safest driver can get injured through no fault of his or her own due to a defective car. “Other cars may be on the recall list – not just the GM vehicles that have been making headlines,” Aaron said. “You can learn more about recalls by visiting http://www.recalls.gov."
In May, General Motors recalled 2012-2013 Buick LaCrosse, Regal and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco vehicles due to defects found in the vehicle’s generator control module in nearly 43,000 models equipped with eAssist, according to The Detroit News, “Feds launch query into GM recall” (July 9, 2013). These vehicles were recalled specifically because the car’s battery frequently ran out of power, leaving the vehicles unable to start, The Detroit News reported. This defect was also responsible for a melting odor, burning and possible fires in the trunk, The Detroit News reported.
General Motors became aware of the problem in October 2012, according to GM spokesman Alan Adler, as reported in The Los Angeles Times article. The company briefly stopped making the cars and fixed the problem at its manufacturing plants. But then in March 2013, a trunk fire was reported in one of the earlier built cars, resulting in the GM recall, The Los Angeles Times reported.
GM has insisted it is inspecting the recalled cars and replacing the defective auto parts, The Detroit News reported. Even so, the NHTSA has raised concerns about whether GM’s screening process to address the car defect is “adequate,” The Detroit News reported. As a result, the NHTSA recently opened “a recall investigation into GM’s May recall,” The Detroit News reported.
Las Vegas, NV auto accident attorney Glenn A. Paternoster of Aaron & Paternoster, LTD, praised the NHTSA for being so attentive and making sure GM’s recall truly addresses the car defect. “There’s no room for error when dealing with defective auto parts,” Paternoster said. “The smallest mechanical error can result in a serious or even fatal car accident. We know because we have dealt with so many serious auto accidents in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada. These cases can be extremely complicated. It’s wise to contact an experienced attorney if you or a loved one was injured due to a vehicle defect.”
