San Diego officials have identified a 12-year-old boy who died after he set off a gun at a Boy Scout camp Monday.

The boy’s name is William Shook and his parents are Las Vegas lawyers John and Julie Shook, according to the Daily Mail.

Police have yet to determine whether William fired the gun accidentally or was trying to commit suicide. Officials are also investigating how William obtained the gun, since no firearms were allowed on the trip. Police think that William brought the gun from Las Vegas.

At the time of the accident, John Shook was a chaperone at the camp on Fiesta Island, which about 20 boy scouts attended.

The camp is a week-long event in Mission Bay, San Diego. Scouts can partake in outdoor activities such as sailing or kayaking at it.

William died in the tent where he was staying.

The Boy Scouts of America sent grief counselors to the camp after the incident.

“This is an extremely sad day for our entire scouting family,” the Boy Scouts of America said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and all those who experienced this tragedy. Our top priority is providing support to our community and for those in the grieving process.”
