Failed Senate Gun Bill Would Not Have Stopped Las Vegas Attack The expanded background check bill that failed to pass in the Senate last year would not have stopped the June 8 Las Vegas attack that ended with two police officers and legally armed civilian "hero" Joshua Robert Wilcox dead.

This is because the guns Jerad and Amanda Miller used were either legally purchased or stolen off the dead police officers after the Millers killed them.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, "all the Millers' guns were legally bought by Amanda in Indiana, aside from the two they stole from slain officers Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31."

With no knowledge of how the guns were acquired, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) pointed to Las Vegas as a justification for expanding background checks on June 9. Breitbart News reported then that he was calling for more gun control before the facts were in on the Las Vegas attack.

With the facts in, it is now clear Amanda Miller acquired her guns "legally," as did Elliot Rodger (Santa Barbara), Ivan Lopez (Ft. Hood 2014), Karl Halverson Pierson (Arapahoe High School), Aaron Alexis (DC Navy Yard), Paul Anthony Ciancia (LAX), James Holmes (Aurora Theater), Nidal Hasan (Ft. Hood 2009), to name but a few.

The failed Senate bill would not have stopped any of these, but it would provide an impetus for the creation of a national gun registry.
