Sidney Crosby added a Hart Trophy on Tuesday night to the gold medal he won at Sochi earlier this year. The Pittsburgh Penguins center picked up the hardware at an NHL ceremony in Las Vegas.
The award marks the second such honor in the 26-year-old's career. Crosby scored 36 goals and notched 68 assists in 80 games, his first 100-plus point season in four years. Crosby hadn't played more than a half season of games since the 2009-2010 campaign.
Crosby earned 128 of 137 first-place votes. Distant runners-up included Ryan Getzlaf of the Ducks and Claude Giroux of the Flyers. Crosby joins teammate Evgeni Malkin and Mario Lemieux as the only Penguins to win multiple Hart Trophies.
Avalanche coach Patrick Roy snagged the Jack Adams Award, given to the coach who has "contributed the most to his team's success," Avalanche understudy Nathan MacKinnon won rookie of the year as the Calder Memorial Trophy recipient, and teammate Ryan O'Reilly captured the Lady Byng Trophy as the player who "exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct." Goalie Tuukka Rask of the Bruins took home the Vezina Trophy and teammate Patrice Bergeron nabbed the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the best defensive forward. Duncan Keith of the Blackhawks won the James Norris Memorial Trophy, acknowledging his prowess as a defensemen. Reported by Breitbart 7 hours ago.
