Pubcon, the search marketing event of the year, is thrilled to announce that noted Internet entrepreneur Jason Calacanis, chief executive and founder of Inside.com and longtime angel investor, will present a major keynote address to kick off Pubcon Las Vegas 2013 in style at the Las Vegas Convention Center in the entertainment capital of the world.
Calacanis is an active angel investor and has hosted the popular podcast “This Week in Startups” since 2009. After three years of hosting TechCrunch50, he founded LAUNCH Media, which publishes the LAUNCH Ticker and produces a number of events including the annual LAUNCH Festival in San Francisco, featuring over 50 start-ups. Previous LAUNCH graduates include Mint, Dropbox, Yammer, Fitbit and Room 77. Calacanis’ Inside.com is expected to launch in the fall of 2013.
“We’re delighted to present Jason Calacanis — one of the world’s most successful social media and technology entrepreneurs and angel investors — as our kick-off keynote speaker during October’s Pubcon Las Vegas 2013 conference,” said Pubcon founder and chief executive Brett Tabke.
“Pubcon Las Vegas 2013 attendees are in for a real treat as Jason starts off our biggest week ever of search and social media marketing, also featuring keynotes by Google’s Matt Cutts and UnMarketing president and popular digital marketing personality Scott Stratten,” Tabke added.
Previously Calacanis was chief executive of Weblogs, Inc., a network of widely-read blogs including Engadget, Joystiq, and Autoblog. Founded in January 2004, Weblogs, Inc. became a wholly-ownedsliderJasonCalacanis subsidiary of AOL in 2005. Calacanis maintained editorial supervision over Weblogs, Inc. as a senior vice president at AOL. Six months into his tenure with AOL, Calacanis was offered a chance to be the General Manager of the new Netscape website.
Before forming Weblogs, Inc., Calacanis was chief executive, founder, and editor of noted monthly news website Silicon Alley Reporter, which chronicled New York’s Internet and new media industries, eventually being sold to Dow Jones.
Having Calacanis present a major social media keynote address at Pubcon Las Vegas 2013 will be a fantastic opportunity for attendees of the world’s largest optimization and new media conference to learn from one of technology’s leading entrepreneurs and personalities. Calacanis will share some of his highly-successful approaches to social media with Pubcon conference-goers in a keynote certain to benefit all those lucky enough to attend it.
Calacanis, who attended Fordham University majoring in psychology, is known for his insights into the media and technology industries, and he is often quoted in trade and consumer media outlets.
Calacanis founded the LAUNCH conference to spotlight unannounced start-ups, with the first event held in 2011 and featuring 140 start-ups, and in 2007 he also founded Mahalo.com, the “human-powered search engine.”
Pubcon, the premier search and social media conference, will hold its multi-track Las Vegas event on October 21 – 24, 2013 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
