Birthday Party Guest Shot

A Las Vegas, Nev., homeowner shot a man last night who accidentally knocked on his door while returning to a birthday party at a nearby home.

The unidentified birthday party guest, who was with another guest, knocked on the homeowner's door at 2:00 a.m., according to Las Vegas Metro Police Lt. Ted Glaude.

The men had left the party, but then returned to the wrong house.

The men couldn't understand why they weren’t allowed back in, banged on the door and got into a verbal argument with the homeowner who was inside.

Believing the two men to be burglars, the homeowner fired off a shot through the closed front door and called 911.

The bullet hit one of the birthday party guests in the chest, noted the Las Vegas Sun.

The man was taken by paramedics to a local hospital where he was treated.

No arrests have been made yet, but the homeowner’s decision to fire his weapon because he believed someone was breaking in may fall under Nevada’s “stand your ground” law, which has been in effect since the 1800s.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the homeowner is "Victor Thompson, a captain with the Las Vegas Fire Department, according to property records and a fire department spokesman."
