Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Attorney James M. Burns has been appointed as Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law’s Legislation Committee, effective August 2014.
The ABA Section of Antitrust Law is the leading professional organization for antitrust and competition law, trade regulation, consumer protection and economics. Over 7,600 members make up the organization including attorneys and non-lawyers from private law firms, in-house counsel, non-profit organizations, consulting firms, federal and state agencies, as well as judges, professors and law students.
The Legislation Committee of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law is responsible for monitoring legislative developments relating to antitrust and trade regulation matters, as well as overseeing the preparation of Section legislative comments. The Committee maintains an active liaison with Congress and congressional staff to monitor federal developments. The Committee also monitors state legislative developments as well to keep its members apprised of the latest regulatory developments in antitrust law.
With over 25 years of experience in antitrust law, Mr. Burns is a Member in Dickinson Wright’s Washington, D.C. office. He has litigated antitrust and related claims in trial and appellate courts all across the country, advised clients on antitrust compliance issues, and represented clients before the DOJ Antitrust Division and the Federal Trade Commission on a wide variety of antitrust matters, including mergers and governmental investigations. He has served in the leadership of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law including serving as: Chair and Vice Chair of the Insurance Industry Committee, Vice Chair of the Exemptions and Immunities Committee, and Vice Chair of the Financial Services Committee.
Mr. Burns is recognized as a leader in his field by Legal Leaders and Martindale Hubbell. He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Burns received his A.B. from Colgate University and his J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law.
