Las Vegas, NV car accident lawyers Ruth L. Cohen and Paul S. Padda praise law enforcement officials’ efforts to reduce the number of fatal auto accidents on I-15 in Southern Nevada
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) March 02, 2014
Interstate 15 in Nevada south of Las Vegas has more fatal auto accidents than many other highways in the country, prompting law enforcement officials to announce a program aimed at eliminating deadly car accidents on I-15, an initiative praised by Las Vegas personal injury lawyer Ruth L. Cohen of Cohen & Padda, LLP.
Cohen expressed her comments in response to an article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal about fatal auto accidents on this stretch of I-15 in Nevada. (Las Vegas Review-Journal, “Despite crash reductions, Zero Fatalities still the goal,” Jan. 12, 2014)
“Interstate 15 auto accidents in Nevada have been a serious problem for years,” Cohen said. “That’s why we’re pleased to see that Nevada Highway Patrol officers and other law enforcement officials are making a concerted effort to tackle the problem. We know all too well at Cohen & Padda just how dangerous I-15 in Nevada can be for drivers. Our law firm has worked with families who have lost loved ones in car accidents in Nevada.”
The Nevada Highway Patrol recently began an educational campaign titled “Zero Fatalities,” which is focused on 32-mile-long stretch of I-15 between St. Rose Parkway in Las Vegas and Primm, NV at the California border, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. This stretch of highway had five fatal accidents in 2013, the same number as 2012, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
As for the overall number of auto accidents on this stretch of I-15, Nevada Highway Patrol officers reported a 62 percent reduction in the number of accidents on this part of I-15 in 2013 compared to 2012, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Even so, more needs to be done, Nevada officials told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“Our numbers are still too high,” Damon Hodge of the Nevada Department of Transportation said in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
This section of I-15 in Nevada and California has been ranked one of the most dangerous roads in America for many years. Popular Mechanics magazine rated I-15 from Las Vegas to Los Angeles as one of the 10 most dangerous roads in America. (Popular Mechanics, “10 of America’s Most Dangerous Road.”) Specifically, there were 173 fatalities between 2000 and 2005 on this portion of I-15, according to Popular Mechanics. And the website The Daily Beast ranked I-15 in California the fourth deadliest road in the country, along with I-15 in Nevada, which was ranked 25th on the same nationwide study. (The Daily Beast, “America’s 100 Deadliest Highways,” May 31, 2010)
Las Vegas auto accident attorney Paul S. Padda of Cohen & Padda, LLP, said, “I wish I could say I was shocked, but sadly, our law office deals with far too many cases involving severe car accidents on I-15 and other highways and roads in Las Vegas and across Nevada.”
Padda said he welcomes the state’s efforts, but said all drivers need to do their part to reduce the risk of accidents. “There are many reasons why accidents happen on I-15 and other major highways in Nevada. Distracted drivers who are texting often fail to notice other drivers. Speeding drivers who think I-15 is a race track and Las Vegas is the finish line put everyone at risk. Then there are the drunk drivers or tired drivers who struggle to make the long drive back to Los Angeles late at night. Whatever the reason, drivers need to avoid careless and reckless behavior.”
