The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced Thursday the eight cities selected as finalists to host the 2016 Republican Convention. RNC Chairman Reince Preibus announced via Twitter that Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, Las Vegas, and Phoenix would have the opportunity to make a bid presentation to the RNC’s 9-member site selection Committee on Monday, March 3rd in Washington.
Three of the eight cities in play to host the convention are in Ohio – an important swing state for the general election. Dallas and 2008 DNC host city Denver are in states that Democrats have aggressively targeted to turn from red to blue.
In Mid-March, the committee will announce a list of selected sites to travel to for visits in late spring. Finalists will be selected shortly after the site visits and in late summer/early fall, a convention city will be voted on by the full RNC.
