The Crypto Report Tech giant IBM Corp (NASDAQ:IBM) is expanding its ever-growing list of blockchain patents. The company filed a recently released patent application to the US Patent and Trademark Office back in March, outlining its plans for a blockchain system that would address security concerns about the use of drones, as per a CCN report. The system would allow airspace controllers and regulators to keep track of drones, providing data about the drone’s flight pattern, location and other information. Analytical algorithms would perform risk assessments, allowing a drone with medical supplies to operate in a restricted airspace, for instance. IBM has filed a total of 89 blockchain patents, just one patent short of Chinese tech giant Alibaba’s total, according to Cointelegraph report. Drone security is a pressing concern for national defense officials, but blockchain company Bitfury is tackling a more everyday problem — where to get your caffeine fix. Using a small computer and a specially-designed circuit board, the company developed a coffee vending that accepts Bitcoin as payment. The machine connects to the Lightning Network, a transaction protocol made up of user-generated channels that makes Bitcoin transactions more scalable. Simply, users scan a QR code on their phones, which connects to a Bitcoin wallet, and are charged US$2 for a cup.  Those two dollars are converted into 15,800 satoshis, a small subdivision of a Bitcoin named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the elusive founder of Bitcoin. "In a way, as we connect this machine, we can connect lots of other stuff, both offline and online. It relies on the infrastructure we built, so we really want for this to open the road to other businesses who want to try crypto. The museum will only admit adults 21 and older. There will be no smoking allowed at the museum because while Nevada residents can legally buy recreational marijuana, there is a ban on public consumption.
