In 1979, Eddie received the title of U.S. Amateur Skateboard Association Champion. He then went on to the professional circuit and became Skateboarder of the Year, along with receiving the “Most Spectacular New Maneuver” award for inventing the Elguerial, a skateboard maneuver named after him, all within the first year of becoming a professional.

The following year, in 1980, Eddie went on to win the 1980 Gold Cup Series of skateboarding and became the World Champion for the second year in a row. Along with two world titles he has introduced some of the most incredible skateboard maneuvers ever conceived or attempted at that time. In such a short period of time Eddie became a legend in the sport, respected and admired by the top pros in the industry today. Some of the tricks, which have enabled him to play a major part in skateboarding history, include the Elguerial, the frontside rock-n-roll, the fakie ollie and the frontside invert, which he perfected. He is considered an innovator, legend, mentor and inspiration to many in the skateboard industry including Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Christian Hosoi and Eric Koston

Now in his 50’s, he still competes around the world in the Legends Division of Skateboarding. In January of 2015, Eddie created of one of the greatest annual gatherings of legends called the El Gato Classic. He travels the globe helping people reach their full potential through coaching, teaching and mentoring. He is a highly sought after speaker and success coach and has been coined a “visionary leader” by many successful business innovators.

Woodcraft Wins American Manufacturing Award at National Hardware Show

During the National Hardware Show, Woodcraft won an award for excellence in packaging designed for Black Dog Salvage Furniture Paint.

Woodcraft received one of three American Manufacturing Awards – Best Packaging – at the 73rd National Hardware Show held May 8-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Made in USA Brand and GBQ Partners sponsored the awards, which reflect American manufacturing excellence in design, quality and innovation in three categories: best packaging, best on-site patriotic marketing, and best new product. John Lederer, National Hardware Show representative, and Marcie Gabor, president of Made in USA Brand, presented the awards on May 9.

Woodcraft was one of over 90 companies exhibiting in the Made in USA Product Display within the National Hardware Show. The national woodworking retailer earned the Best Packaging Award for Black Dog Salvage Furniture Paint packaging. The paint was on display at the Woodcraft booth.

Made in small batches in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the paint line was developed by Woodcraft and Black Dog Salvage, a Roanoke, Virginia-based architectural salvage company. The goal was to a create a furniture paint that performed better than other paints currently available, one that would be safe and easy to use when transforming reclaimed materials into custom furniture and accents in the Black Dog shop. The unique formulation will adhere to almost any surface with minimal preparation. Sixteen premixed colors include a true black and white to afford the ability to mix custom tints and shades.

“Woodcraft is honored to receive the Best Packaging Award, a surprise that made exhibiting at this prestigious show even more rewarding,” Jack Bigger, Woodcraft vice president of sales and marketing, said. “The award was a special treat, an American made work of art.”

A case study published Monday in the health journal BMJ chronicles the three years of debilitating pain a 31-year-old woman went through after getting inked.

"She was having to use crutches at times, not able to exercise, and even had to cancel a trip that she had planned from the U.K. to Las Vegas as result of the symptoms she was having," said Dr. William Wilson, a trauma and orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. William Wilson says his patient developed thigh and knee pain after getting a large tattoo on her left thigh. The woman told the researchers the parlor was hygienic and that she had no problems from a tattoo she got several years prior on her other leg.

However, the woman also has chronic cystic fibrosis and received a lung transplant, which requires her to take several anti-rejection meds.

"Medications like that suppress the immune system," Wilson said.

In fact, an MRI and biopsy showed chronic muscle inflammation in the area right under where she had the tattoo.

"Given the timing and the location of the symptoms, we felt that the tattoo potentially could have been the cause," Wilson said.

It's unclear if the tattoo was the cause. But, after months of physical therapy, Wilson says his patient has no more pain.

"Patients who are on immunosuppression or who are on drugs that suppress their immune system should consider carefully whether to have tattoos," he said.

Wilson's warning remains for people taking medications for things like anti-organ rejection. He also warns people undergoing chemotherapy or taking certain diabetes medications. Reported by Newsy 4 hours ago.
