Flying car startup backed by Google founder Larry Page offers test flights

A flying car project backed by Google co-founder Larry Page was closer to take-off on Wednesday, with a model for test flights by aspiring buyers. Kitty Hawk, funded by Page, unveiled a "Flyer" model it described as "an exciting first step to sharing the freedom of flight." The company was created last year in Google's home town of Mountain View, California, and has been testing a prototype in New Zealand.

Images and details were available at a freshly launched website at flyer.aero, and CNN posted coverage of a reporter taking to the air in a Flyer over a lake at a test site near Las Vegas.

Kitty Hawk chief executive Sebastian Thrun, who founded the Google X lab devoted to "moonshots" such as self-driving cars and internet-synched eyewear, was quoted by CNN as saying piloting Flyer was as easy playing the video game "Minecraft.""Making Flyer accessible, which is what we do at our Lake Las Vegas training facility, helps more people experience the freedom and possibilities of vehicles of the future," a Kitty Hawk spokeswoman told AFP.

"Our immediate priority is to invite small groups of people -- customers, influencers, media and community members - to experience the freedom of flight here in our newly opened training facility." People interested in buying Flyers were invited at the website to apply for an invitation to do so, with no price specified. An early version of Flyer was shown off last year.

The electric aircraft had 10 small lift rotors on its wings, making it capable of vertical take-off and landing like a helicopter. Kitty Hawk said that at 15 meters (50 feet) away, it sounded about as lound as a lawn mower, while from 250 feet away the volume was on par with a loud conversation. Test flights by first-timers were over water, with the top speed limited to 32 kilometers per hour (20 mph) and the altitude to no more than three meters.

The uncovered cockpit appeared big enough for one person, with their head poking out as it might from a go-kart. "Flyer is designed to be easy to fly and flown for recreational purposes over water and uncongested areas," the website said.

"Flyer is Kitty Hawk's first personal flying vehicle and the first step to make flying part of everyday life." The new flying machine is one of several concept vehicles being testing, with Uber and others in the mix. Page and Sergey Brin founded Google in 1998, starting out in a Silicon Valley garage and transforming into one of the world's largest companies.

He remains chief executive of Google-parent Alphabet but the Kitty Hawk project is a personal pursuit, not part of the tech giant's operations.

SetToDestroyX retains The Sports Advisory Group to lead the fundraising effort

KITCHENER, Ontario (PRWEB) June 07, 2018

Kitchener-based SetToDestroyX has opened an investment round to meet the company’s aggressive growth objectives. The team is currently Canada’s oldest and is one of the fastest growing esports organizations in North America.

The DESTROYERS were founded in 2010 to first support a hobby. Kitchener native Charlie Watson, Owner and CEO of the organization recognized the revenue potential associated with the burgeoning esports industry. In 2015 he turned it into a full-time endeavor merging his passion with his business acumen.

The brand competes professionally in more than 10 titles that span across all platforms and many genres. In the past 3 years they have skyrocketed into the global overall rankings with a modest budget. In 2017 they earned over 50 podium finishes which included more than 20 tournament wins. This year SetToDestroyX was awarded a charter franchise spot in the H1Z1 Pro League located in Las Vegas, Nevada, as they developed a team before the competitive market opened. Now, the DESTROYERS have sat at the top of the league standings for the last 5 weeks.

The SetToDestroyX Twitch stream team features more than 50 full-time professional streamers and is among the most diverse and far-reaching organizations in esports. Over the past 12-months, the SetToDestroyX channel has offered live content for more than 12 hours every day. Their team entertains captive audiences for over 132,000 hours yearly and is averaging more than 350,000 viewers combined each month.

With the entire organization utilizing social media such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and others, the team has more than 200,000,000 impressions each year. The brand has produced signature unique content such as an esports docu-series aptly named DESTROYERS which follows the esports brand and the lives of competitive players around the world. Another series, HUSTLE, produced this year, captures the H1Z1 Pro League and their pro team and staff living in Las Vegas at Caesar’s Entertainment.

About the offering, SetToDestroyX Owner & CEO Charlie Watson states “Although I’ve been successfully operating as the sole owner for the past 8 years, I’m seeing major opportunities for growth”. He adds, “With a core staff with more than 40 years combined experience in esports management, I’m eager to take on partners for the first time so that we can expand our worldwide reach, remain a competitive leader and achieve our full potential”.

Watson has selected The Sports Advisory Group, a division of W.B. Grimes and Company to lead the fundraising effort. W.B. Grimes is a Maryland-based mergers and acquisitions firm that has a 59-year history in the media, entertainment and professional sports industries. In recent years they have arranged funding for several esports franchises working closely with top organizations including Infinite Esports and others. The project is led by Bill Yates a Senior Associate and head of The Sports Advisory Group’s Fort Worth, Texas office.

Eco-friendly bamboo clothing company Big Boy Bamboo widens their big and tall product line with juicy new options for unapologetic style - Men’s sizes 3XL-8XL and tall sizes 1XLT-4XLT.

LAS VEGAS (PRWEB) June 11, 2018

Big Boy Bamboo (https://BigBoyBamboo.com), a Las Vegas-based clothing company catering to a bigger audience - pun intended - has just announced that their vibrant Lemon, Lime, and Orange t-shirt colors are available for the Summer of Citrus. In the Vegas summer heat, the plus size company’s sunnier shades and lusciously cool bamboo-blend fabric are sure to fit right in.

Big Boy Bamboo focuses exclusively on bamboo-blend products for men who wear sizes that other stores usually don’t carry - 3XL to 8XL & 1XLT to 4XLT. Big Boy Bamboo t-shirts are made from a super-soft fabric blend of 70% organic bamboo fiber and 30% organic cotton, and Big Boy Bamboo is currently the only company in the world making sustainable bamboo shirts in these big and tall sizes.

Praise from the Plus Size Community
Tony DeLa Rocha, recognized vlogger for the plus size fashion industry (https://www.youtube.com/user/tonystar2010) said, “Big Boy Bamboo’s new citrus colors are amazing and perfect for summer. They’ll make the plus size community proudly stand out with colors they don’t usually find in their size.”

That lusciously soft fabric blend is perfectly suited for the company’s bigger clientele, especially in warmer climates where their naturally cool fabric blend keeps big boys feeling fresh. The Summer of Citrus event is offering more fashionable color options for extra large dudes just in time to beat the scorching summer temperatures, including even bigger sizes in the company’s 3 popular big and tall t-shirt styles: crew neck, v-neck, and crew neck with pocket. Their color palette includes Licorice (Black), Wine (Red), Blueberry (Dark Blue), and Oyster (Dark Gray).

Big Boy Bamboo’s new Summer of Citrus colors come in three sunny shades: Lemon, Lime, and Orange. It shouldn’t take much mental strain to figure out that means bright yellow, bright green, and...well, orange. These bright citrus t-shirts are a direct response to requests from their loyal fans and customers who asked for more eye-catching colors to brighten up their wardrobes. The company has found many vocal champions in the world of plus-sized men’s fashion since launch, and these new colors are sure to please the men who want to look extremely stylish while wearing soft, comfortable bamboo clothing in their size.

Andrew DiMino, Big Boy Bamboo’s Chief Executive Panda, talks about the decision to offer bright Lemon, Lime, and Orange colors for plus size men this summer:

“Our amazing customers have been asking for brighter colors. Bamboo-based fabric is great for really vibrant, rich color, and we realized that we were serving a lot of big guys who want to stand out in the right way. In fact, I’m now wearing lusciously bright colors everyday since getting our first citrus shirts, and I’ve always been known for wearing dark colors. I’m thrilled that so many people sent us messages begging for bright colors. I know they’ll love our Summer of Citrus.”

The new Summer of Citrus colors from Big Boy Bamboo are available in Men’s plus sizes 3XL through 8XL, and tall sizes from 1XLT through 4XLT.

Sizes 7XL and 8XL shirts are another new offering just being introduced this summer, and are available in Lemon, Lime, Orange, and Blueberry colors.

About Big Boy Bamboo
Since it’s launch, Big Boy Bamboo has been embraced by plus sized male fashion blogs and welcomed to the extended size community with great enthusiasm. Until Big Boy Bamboo, there were no manufacturers making bamboo-blend shirts for guys who wear sizes 3XL and larger. DiMino, a proud 3XL wearer himself, also hates how the entire fashion industry treats larger sizes like a sensitive topic. There has been an extreme lack of respect for bigger men who just want to find nice, well-fitting clothing, and DiMino is determined to run his company differently.

Big Boy Bamboo is never preachy or patronizing. Their models are guys who actually wear the sizes they sell, and they don’t sugarcoat their language.

Big Boy Bamboo offers free returns, free exchanges and ship to over 25 countries across the globe.

Visit https://bigboybamboo.com/shop/ to see the full range of tee shirt colors and sizes. For questions, comments, mediocre jokes, and press inquiries, contact Andrew and the rest of the Big Boy Bamboo team by email. Reported by PRWeb 1 hour ago.

AWWA Cheers Measures in Senate Farm Bill That Aim to Protect Drinking Water Sources

The American Water Works Association, the largest association of water professionals in the world, today applauded the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee for introducing a bipartisan Farm Bill on Friday that recognizes the importance of protecting drinking water sources from nutrient runoff.

DENVER (PRWEB) June 11, 2018

The American Water Works Association, the largest association of water professionals in the world, today applauded the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee for introducing a bipartisan Farm Bill on Friday that recognizes the importance of protecting drinking water sources from nutrient runoff.

AWWA singled out Chairman Pat Roberts, Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow, and Sen. Sherrod Brown for their commitment to protecting source water. The bill, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, includes several key measures advanced by AWWA over the past two years.

The bill was introduced just days before an estimated 12,000 water professionals will gather in Las Vegas, Nevada, for AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE18), which runs today through Thursday. Source water protection is among the key areas of focus at the conference.

The downstream and public health benefits of conservation programs funded through the Farm Bill are extremely important to all Americans who depend on clean drinking water. The bill includes an important recognition and emphasis of source water protection across the working lands programs in the conservation title. It expands opportunities for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to work with water systems and authorizes increased incentives for farmers who employ practices that benefit downstream water quality and quantity.

The bill makes a strong commitment to overall conservation by maintaining funding at current levels. It also makes an added funding commitment to the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) and emphasizes source water protection in the program.

“We appreciate the work the Senate Agriculture Committee accomplished,” said Tracy Mehan, AWWA executive director of government affairs. “Our hope is to work with the committee as the bill works its way through the legislative process to include a reservation of funds for source water protection as is included in Rep. Marcia Fudge’s bill, the Collaborative Water and Soil Enhancement Act of 2018, and in the House version of the Farm Bill.”

AWWA began to engage in the Farm Bill process over two years ago to bring more attention to the issue of protecting sources of drinking water through conservation practices funded by the Farm Bill. “We believe it’s important for USDA to emphasize protection of drinking water sources as part of its overall water quality and water quantity mission,” Mehan said.

AWWA created a whiteboard animation video to more clearly illustrate how the Farm Bill’s conservation programs are key to protecting drinking water sources. It is available on AWWA’s YouTube channel.

###

Established in 1881, the American Water Works Association is the largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water, the world’s most important resource. With approximately 51,000 members, AWWA provides solutions to improve public health, protect the environment, strengthen the economy and enhance our quality of life. Reported by PRWeb 14 hours ago.
