Is Nicolas Cage Quitting Acting for Good?
Who doesn’t admire Nicolas Cage to at least some degree – he’s an actor who has been lauded at the Oscars and is yet regarded as something of a memeworthy star, even to this day. Cage’s acting style is famously intense and often over the top – intentionally in some cases, it’s thought – making him one of the most iconic, madcap acting talents to ever grace the big screen. Cage is one of the Hollywood Coppolas, too – and is a massive comic book fan, which may largely be why he appeared to relish working on Ghost Rider so much. Cage’s iconic performances in the likes of Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation and The Wicker Man (though perhaps for entirely different reasons) have certainly left their mark on Western audiences.
With these things considered – it’s perhaps shocking to hear that Cage is reportedly considering tying up his acting career in order to move behind the camera. Looking to make a full transition from front-of-camera to production and direction, the actor recently advised in conversation with media representatives that he would be looking to pursue direction as his future career strand in just a few years’ time. “Directing is something I’d look forward to down the road, because right now I’m primarily a film performer – I’m going to continue doing that for three or four more years and then I’d like to focus more on directing,” Cage stated. Cage’s own studio, Saturn Films, is – as the actor himself stated – involved with any and all films he is currently involved with.

There’s multiple reasons why Cage is interested in making the switch. “I have had to deal with mistakes of the past and I have had to dig myself up and out of a rabbit hole financially,” he advised, “But (I’ve) had to find movies that work for me in terms of performance but also, like anybody else, pay the bills – it is a job, after all.” Cage won’t be the first actor to make the transition to directing movies after having been a Hollywood mainstay – as both Clint Eastwood and Mel Gibson have made such a transition, and both to very successful standards. While Cage will still be working in Hollywood, we will surely miss his unique talents in front of the camera – can he strike further Oscar gold as a director on years to come? Let’s see!
